WHY USE ETHANOL FOR COOKING?

Reduced Carbon Footprint
As a renewable biofuel, ethanol is derived from plant matter such as corn, sugarcane, or other organic materials, making it a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. Switching from charcoal or firewood to ethanol fuel could save up to 30 trees and reduce 3-5 tons of GHG emissions per household and therefore, reducing the carbon footprint.

Indoor Air Quality
When used for cooking, ethanol burns cleanly and efficiently, producing significantly fewer harmful emissions compared to traditional fuels like coal or wood. This results in improved indoor air quality and reduced greenhouse gas emissions, helping combat air pollution. Cooking with charcoal and firewood is comparable to exposing oneself to the smoke of 400 cigarettes per hour.

Economic Opportunities
The widespread adoption of ethanol as a cooking energy source can contribute to rural development and energy independence by promoting local production and reducing reliance on expensive imports. It can stimulate job growth in farming, fuel production, and stove manufacturing sectors, supporting local economies.

ABOUT US
In Tanzania, access to clean and affordable cooking energy remains a significant challenge. According to the International Energy Agency's World Energy Outlook, approximately 90% of Tanzanian households rely on traditional biomass (e.g., firewood and charcoal) for cooking.
Cooking with traditional biomass leads to deforestation and habitat degradation, as large amounts of trees are cut down to meet the demand for fuel. Similarly, the burning of biomass releases harmful pollutants and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These emissions can worsen air quality and have serious health implications, particularly for women and children who are often the ones exposed to indoor air pollution during cooking.
At Gastro, we are passionate about promoting sustainable and clean cooking solutions in Tanzania. We specialize in the distribution and sale of high-quality ethanol cookstoves and ethanol fuel. Our vision is to create a sustainable future where clean cooking through ethanol empowers low income households in rural and urban areas to improve their quality of life and protect the environment.
Ethanol Fuel has 65% fuel efficiency. Tests from Project Gaia have shown that using the Clean Cook stove a liter of ethanol can displace 5kg of wood and 2kg of charcoal
